The Shining Analysis

In our media class we were supposed to look and analis the poster for the movie The Shining. I started out in finding the difference between the two people, who is the mad one and who is the good and innocent one. The one aspect that contributes to that theory is the difference in the screen, where one side of the screen is dark signifying the mad dangerous and one side is brighter signifying innocence. One more detail that tells the audience who is the evil and who is the good is that while the woman is in the corner hiding the man with the axe is trying to find her and kill her.

The next aspect that I looked at was the broken door which signifies one of the woman's only protections against this mad man, and the axe is the item that helps this man to achieve his goal to kill her. The next important thing about this movie poster is the facial expressions, it is important because facial expressions are the emotion that lets the audience know whether a person is happy or sad in a film. In this movie poster Jack Nicholson facial expression persuades the audience that he is an insane lunatic by having his eyes looking in one direction signifies that he is trying to find someone. Another aspect about his face is that he has a dirty and unclean face giving more of a empretion of him being a lunatic. The woman in distress is played by Shelley Duvall who persuades the audience by her screaming facial expression that she is scared and in trouble, she also has a knife in her hand which signifies that she will always have some kind of protection against evil.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, well im sorry but im giving you only 311.
