Synthetic and Organic Artists

Synthetic Band/Artist: Nicky Minaj 

            A synthetic band/artist is a music group that is basically when a band is selling out and that the music group is more about the money than the actual music. For my synthetic artist I had chosen the artist Nicky Minaj because she is the perfect example of one. One of the main aspects of her being one is that her music is mainly about her performance and her body movements rather than being about the music. In an addition to her being all about her performance there is a lack of instrumental performance which is one of the aspects of a musician group being a synthetic group.

            I suspect that most (maybe even all) of her songs are using synthetic instruments which means that the instruments that make up her songs are computer generated which is one of the main points of being a synthetic band. By the music being synthetic she is able to attract a more modern audience, if she had used more organic instruments she might have not been able to attract more of an audience because her synthetic look and performance would not tie in together with the organic instruments.

            Within any of the music videos that she is in is mostly based on the story and the performance  of her acting rather than her lip-syncing with the music and the instruments, thus most of her videos have a lack of lip-syncing.

Organic Band/Artist: Bon Jovi

           

            For my organic band I have chosen the group Bon Jovi, I think that they are the perfect example of an organic band because of their unique song writing skills and the ability to work well together in a band. One aspect of them being a organic band is that they don’t sell out to their record label and they don’t allow the record label change them as a band figure. Their music videos are really good which consist of having 50% all about the performance and then 50% of the story within the music video.  

            Bon Jovi is proven to write their own songs which is a big aspect of being an organic band, and they all co-operate with one another in order to create songs. In the beginning of it all Jon Bon Jovi (Lead singer) had started out small and he had rose to the top, he had to accomplish this himself, unlike some of the synthetic artists that have special connections with other people like producers and have things handed to them.
