Account of Shoot Day

We had started our day off by meeting in the editing suit; there we had gone through our thriller idea that we would be shooting today. We had realised that through our idea we might not be able to attract so many young adults as our target audience. In order to attract more people into watching our thriller we should more suspense, in our first idea we have a couple sitting in the car knowingly that one of them was going to die because of the girls nervousness, in our new idea we had changed that the couple are already on the run away from the boss while the boss is trying to get rid of them. This gives more action and suspense to our thriller because the audience is not able to tell what is going to be around the corner and leaves them in question.

Our full new idea is where the couple are getting a car ready so they could drive off, this had lead to her apologising to the guy for dragging him into this situation. As they had been ready to drive off they had been caught by on of the bosses thugs, this brings the audience to a shocking moment where they are left in confusion on what is going to happen. In the film we would show that the thug jumps in frame of the window, as he shoots he would kill the guy while the girl rolls out of the door. While the thug circles the car to check where the girl is, the girl circles the car as well, at that point of the scene she had shot him from behind. Then there is a moment of silence where she strokes the dead boyfriends hair to show affection, then after that she had thrown him out the car and drives off. This whole story leaves the viewer in confusion and they would be wondering what would be happening next.

For the location of the thriller we had gone out in search of several different possibilities for the shoot. Our thriller would be able to attract the average teenager to watch out film because we are able to create suspense and regret through making our thriller idea. In our thriller we had chosen to first start out with slow shots that turn to become quick short cuts during the action sequence to make the viewer feel more suspense. In the first shot we had opened with a slow tracking shot and that had made a wonderful opening shot.

We had started out with the woman’s clothes, we had decided for the girl to have something very stylish but also wearing red lipstick         to signify that danger is to come. For the guy we have him wearing a leather jacket to signify that he is trying to hide his past.

During the day of the shoot we had changed the cast list slightly; the main characters had stayed. All that we had changed was the side characters, which had been the change of Simon and Habeeb as the shooters and we had changed to tom from the set up department.

For our lighting we had only used natural light from the sun because this had been an external shoot. It would have been much more difficult to have lighting outside because it had been raining a bit and it could have damaged the equipment.

For the sound we don’t know so far in what exactly we would be using in the post, but we had used dialogue as well as the snow crunching sound when you step on the snow. We also have sounds of the car door closing and as well as the container closing.

My role of this shoot was to create a editor blog where to say which shots in the end have been successful and which ones turned out bad. In the shoot I also had set up the tripods and a bit of the camera handling. For the director we had switched from time to time.

The End result of the whole shoot we had come up with all the different shots that are needed to create a 1-2 minute long sequence, so I think that we accomplished the task to do so. I thought that I would’ve been happier if we were to do our first idea, I believe so because that we had been already with all the shots as well as all the people and thus being more prepared for the shoot instead of a shoot that we are coming up with the ideas on the spot.
